Self-Improvement

by Amy Belding Brown

God speed to you, Wallace.
May your journey be safe.
May your flights not be noisy
and your seat belts not chafe.

As you fly round the planet
to Mongolia,
we hope you record for us
things that you saw.

Learn all that you're able --
grow both wise and strong,
though we trust that your travels
won't take you too long.

As our friendly curmudgeon
you may drive us all mad,
but the truth is -- deep down --
we don't think you're so bad.

You've earned your position
of gadfly, it's true.
So be sure to come back soon
for we know we'll miss you. :-)
