Thoreau

Dawn Watcher

by Amy Belding Brown

In the silence of the morning house,
when sleep still shepherds longing,
I stand witness at the window of my heart,
seeking this day's true intention.

My solemn quest brings solace
as light licks the polished sky awake
and every winter branch yearns east
toward the certain possibility of love.
