Huckleberry People

by Amy Belding Brown

Huckleberry people --
shadows under trees --
stalking comprehension
of Nature's secrecies.

Huckleberry people --
alert to flashing wings --
have a special way of seeing
the incidental things.

Huckleberry people --
from the city or the hill --
appreciate the play of light
on the waterfall's long spill.

Huckleberry people --
tuned to nature's true intent --
know solitude's indulgence,
and friendship's sweet content.

Huckleberry people --
beyond the common strife --
spend their waking hours
celebrating life.
