The Question

by Amy Belding Brown

Why posture over trifles
when the simple truth is clear?
The eye that sees the nestling
and beholds the running deer
is the same that perceives wind clouds
in a city window glass
and observes the rainbow sparkle
on a blade of dew-bent grass.
Why quibble over places
when our time here is so slight?
We are -- all of us -- created
to be witnesses of light.
