Click the links above, or view descriptions below (along with links to additional galleries not listed in the above menu). Pieces throughout the various sections of this gallery which are marked with an asterisk (*) are also available as desktop wallpaper (in every case at much larger sizes — i.e. standard monitor resolution sizes — than the samples shown on the pages here). Also, bear in mind while you're browsing that many, if not most (but not all) of the pieces also have thumbnail versions of the original photos from which they were created (if the pieces had their origins in any particular photo, of course) — just scroll down the pop-up preview pages for each piece, if you'd like to see what I started with! For high-resolution versions of these pieces for print, please write for info. The original versions of most of the pieces within these gallery pages (except for older, earlier works) have been done up at 300 dpi, in many cases at standard postcard size (6" x 4.25"). (: What's New? :)Interestingly, this latest bunch of pieces are all rather "blue" — but not in a "melancholy" sort of way, but perhaps rather in a more ethereal sort of way. All of these pieces are available at larger sizes for use as desktop wallpaper (click the thumbnails or links for a preview page of each piece, where you will also find links to download the wallpapers). First up, a couple of pieces which are a reflection of my own spiritual roots in the transcendentalist movement which sprouted in New England in the mid-19th century...
The Wellfleet Penman *A "colour photograph"(!) of Henry David Thoreau at Cape Cod in 1857 (much more additional info can be found on the preview page.
Transparent Eyeball *If you can believe it, a portrait of Ralph Waldo Emerson! At least, this piece is an adaptation of a 19th century caricature of him done by fellow transcendentalist, Christopher Cranch. Isn't that sort of vision what we all aspire to, though?
Next up, we go from these latter 19th-century "hippies" to some offspring of the 1960s, for a little bit of California sunshine (pun intended, for those-in-the-know!)...
Dr. Timothy Leary *Tim in space (orbiting the Earth)! This photo is both a tribute to Dr. Leary and his devotion to the quest for personal, inner exploration, and to his lively, "animated" personality, as well as being a virtual satire, an intentional reflection of ourselves, that is, of how those who might call themselves his "disciples" have opted to elevate him to the status of "guru". One might argue justifiably both for or against this latter perspective, but in any case if one views this piece with the intended humour and nothing more, then it is indeed simply an intentionally amusing portait of Timothy Leary — if you see anything else (spiritual or otherwise) in it, though, whether positive or negative, then it is actually a portrait of you. ;) Note: As a nod to the spirit of the Sixties, there's a very subtle peace sign in this piece — can you see it?
California Happy Face *California dreamin' with artist, calligrapher and type designer — not to mention objet d'art (et objet d'autres choses!) — Jill Bell. I know, I know, these "kosmagic surgery" pieces are getting a bit redundant, but I suddenly saw the happy face in there one day and couldn't resist doing up this one — we all could use a little smile from a pretty girl sometimes (even if the smile isn't quite what or where you think it is!), after all, and so here's a BIG smiley for your desktop. ;)
This next piece isn't really all that new and was already up here for a while, but even though it's easily found in my Tributes section as well, I think I'll just leave it here on this main page for a while. Somehow... I just don't think it's quite time to take it down from here just yet... Buddha Sunrise *In March of 2001, the iconoclastic Taliban regime destroyed the 1500-year-old Buddhas of Bamiyan, the two largest statues of the Buddha ever created. On September 11th, the twin towers of the World Trade Center were brought down in New York City by terrorist attacks. And yet, the pair of giants — both pairs, and all that they (and their destruction) both represented — continue to live on in memory, and certainly now for all eternity.
